Who We Are

Young mothers between the ages of 16 to 24 tend to lack support in underserved neighborhoods in Chicago. In most neighborhoods across the Chicagoland and surrounding suburban areas, family support programs are far and few due to local budget cuts and declining staff. Food disparities, health care access, professional development and transportation resources were highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where African-American and Latinx teen and young adult mothers were struggling to feed, educate, nurture and provide basic resources for their families.

 

According to a study released by The Red Line Project in May 2020, the teen birth rate in Chicago is higher than the national average of 18.8 births per 1,000 women ages 15 to 19. This number, however, has decreased more than 20% compared to the national rate. However, mothers in Chicago, ages 15 to 24, continue to struggle with access to provide and have a drastic need for more assistance programs and local resources. Our programs will promote positive, cognitive, emotional and physical growth for young mothers while providing necessary resources to better develop their children and, in return, better their communities.

 

Our organization also promotes community trust, a factor that most young mothers are without in Chicago and its surrounding areas. We want our clients to feel safe and supported. Our services will be holistic with the help of community partners and supporters who will help provide services to our young mothers. Promise of Growth is a safe space and judge-free zone, and prides itself on being culturally sensitive and respective to the young mothers that we serve. We practice strict confidentiality laws and work overtime to ensure safety of our mothers and their children.

 

Promise of Growth is on a mission to provide those resources and do our part in helping maintain a decreased teen birth rate, and pour local resources into educating and supporting young mothers to raise strong families and make healthy decisions. Through our services, we are promoting community wellness, prioritizing health, and encouraging generational advancements for young families.
